EP-20: Michael Masangkay – 2X Escapee from Alcatraz Tells How

July 15, 2015 by Tony Woodall

Michael Masangkay with Family Supporting Him at 2015 Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon

Michael Masangkay can now feed his family after he finishes his 2nd

Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco

Michael is a coworker of mine that has really impressed me with his attitude, graciousness and spirit at work. He has also impressed me with his athletic ability.

I have seen his many pictures of the long distance bike rides around the San Francisco bay area. I have heard him talk about his exploits and adventures. Most recently I learned that he completed his second Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco.

If you are not familiar with Alcatraz Island, you should check it out HERE.

Michael let me broadcast our interview live on Periscope. Periscope is owned by Twitter and is a tool for creating LIVE Video Broadcasts.  It’s a very cool tool and this was my 1st Live Interview and 1st Periscope Broadcast.

The Escape From Alcatraz is a 20 Mile Race. It includes a 2 mile Swim, an 18 mile Bike Ride and finishes with an 8 mile run.

Michael also believes in Kaizen, the Japanese concept of “Continuous Improvement” and strives to do that in every thing he does.

Traithlon Science

Recommended Equipment

Michael uses My Fitness Pal, an app for smartphones or tablets, to track nutrition, diet, activities. I have used it successfully as well and highly recommend it.

He also strongly recommends remembering to bring your lubricants.  He uses Triglide or Body Glide.

Words of Wisdon

To train and prepare for these types of events, Regularity is the key. Keep working on it.
