I like what Eugene has to say here. It should have been my mantra when I was young. Sigh. . . but it wasn’t. I work as a consultant traveling to customer sites. I spent most of the day working and eating. I would leave the office late or go back to my hotel room to work late. I would either order a pizza into the room and eat the entire large Dominoes Pizza while working and watching TV or I would go out to a restaurant like Cheesecake Factory. I would have a couple drinks, eat dinner and then desert. I would then go to my room, watch a little TV or work and then go to bed.

When I started working on trying to get fit, I started looking at the calories I was eating at the Cheesecake Factory and restaurants like that. I would order a beer or two or wine before and during dinner. When the brought the little loaf of bread I would eat it. Since I was alone, I usually ate the loaf by myself. Did you know that loaf of bread has 600 calories and that is without the butter I put I it. Then I would order the entree. The meals at Cheesecake Factory are huge! You get your money’s worth. When I started counting calories, I saw that what I used to eat cost me anywhere from 3,000 – 5000 calories.

For just the entree. Now that counted all of the meat, vegetables, potatoes, etc., BUT, that’s still a lot of calories. Then I would have desert. I was on an expense account, traveling usually alone, and I deserved to have desert. Well, if you’ve checked the Cheesecake Factory calories on their cheesecakes, the plain cheesecake has about 1800 calories. The fancier ones have double that. I deserved fancy when I traveled, most of the time.

After eating that and maybe another drink after dinner, I would head back to my hotel room, watch a little TV and/or work a little more, then GO TO BED. I would go to bed with 5000 – 10,000 calories in my GUT! Sitting there, making a home in my stomach. Settling in my thighs and buttocks.

This is not a way to live if you are a consultant or entrepreneur. You must take care of yourself. Be Fit. When you travel keep being fit on your mind. You are your own guardian of your body. Be Fit, Stay Fit. If you are fit, stay that way. Watch what you eat and when you eat. Eat healthy.  Be Fit, Stay Fit, Never have to get fit.

It takes so much to get fit. For a while, I was working hard to get fit. I would do the elliptical for two hours each night after work. I would burn just over 1400 calories. To burn the calories I used to eat when I was a traveling entrepreneur would take me 6-8 hours. It wasn’t worth it. Take Eugene’s advice and “Be Fit, Stay Fit, Never have to get fit!”

Go Out Today and Be Fit, Stay Fit! Then you won’t have to worry about getting fit.
